The design involved the creation of a single storey rear extension as well as the internal refurbishment of a period property. Located in the Rufford Park Conservation Area, David Machell Architecture was commissioned to design an extension that externally blended with the historic property but internally created a modern, light filled space. The challenge was to create a flowing, open plan kitchen, dining and living space with large windows opening up onto the garden. It was also imperative that the new extension matched previous structures that had been built so the whole design appeared seamless with the existing house. A large roof lantern maximises south facing natural light and an enhanced ceiling height helps create an airy space ideal for socialising and relaxing.
David Machell Architecture services for the project included submission of a Householder Planning Application in a Conservation Area, Building Control Application and liaising with West Lancashire Borough Council.
