The project is located in Hesketh Bank, West Lancashire with the existing house only about twenty years old. The Clients were in two minds whether to sell the property or enhance the existing space with a new extension and internal refresh. The brief involved creating a new open plan kitchen, dining and living space with full height glazing opening up onto the garden. A key requirement of the brief was to maximise natural light as the existing kitchen suffered from minimal direct sunlight and created a kitchen and dining space that felt very dark. A new vaulted brick extension was constructed with feature apex glazing and bifold doors and skylights flooding the space in natural light. Structural steelwork was painted and left exposed for an industrial aesthetic.
David Machell Architecture services for the project included submission of a Lawful Development Certificate, Building Control Application, liaising with West Lancashire Borough Council and construction site visits.
